One of the best ways to get to know a new town is through its local businesses. Here are some of my favorite spots across Bergen and Hudson Counties — the places I recommend to clients, friends, and neighbors.

The November 2 refresh adds a fresh batch of dependable local stops, all verified open now: PyeongAnDong (89 Main Street) and Q Grill Korean BBQ (1645 Lemoine Avenue) in Fort Lee; and in Hackensack, PHUHROO @Hackensack (116 Anderson Street), Bangkok Garden (261 Main Street), Forte Ristorante (160 Prospect Avenue), and Mi Rancho Mexican (59 Main Street). The October 29 refresh adds another batch of dependable local stops, all verified open now: Gammeeok (485 Main Street), Myung Dong Noodle House (2013 Lemoine Avenue), and ONGA Korean Restaurant (1475 Bergen Boulevard) in Fort Lee; Bite Food & Coffee Co. (360 Essex Street) and Iconic Coffee (157 Main Street) in Hackensack; and Orale Mexican Kitchen (341 Grove Street) and Laree Adda (287 Grove Street) in Jersey City, with Ridgewood's Zen Haus Café (9 South Broad Street) rounding out the board. The October 27 refresh adds a fresh batch of dependable local stops verified open now: XIN LA GONG FU (440 Main Street) brings Sichuan-style malatang and spicy hot pot to Fort Lee's dining row; Ridgewood adds Tatte Bakery & Cafe (222 East Ridgewood Avenue), Baumgart's Cafe (158 Franklin Avenue), and Blue Ridge Cafe (37 East Ridgewood Avenue); The Moon Korean BBQ & Hot Pot (450 Hackensack Avenue) is an all-you-can-eat favorite in Hackensack; and My Mexico in Downtown (133 Morris Street) is a lively option in Jersey City's downtown. The October 22 refresh tracks a strong mid-October opening wave across both counties: Lefkes at The Modern is now open at 200 Park Avenue in Fort Lee in the former Ventanas space; Amici Caffè, an Italian cafe, opened at 602 Ridge Road in Lyndhurst; Kabab Cafe, a Mediterranean restaurant and bakery, opened at 501 Route 17 in Paramus; The Spot, a breakfast-and-lunch spot, opened at 118 First Street in Hackensack; Cafe et Lait opened its second Fort Lee coffee shop at 817 Abbott Boulevard; Jersey City debuted the 85,000-square-foot ShopRite of Hudson Exchange Place at 99 Provost Street and Vicoletto Pizza & Cucina at 357 7th Street; and Hoboken is soft-opening From Duo, the former Duo Donuts & Matcha, at 205 12th Street by the end of the month. The October 19 refresh is Fort Lee-heavy: Sura On Main, a Korean royal-court cuisine restaurant, is coming to 240 Main Street; Minia's is now open at 1 Bridge Plaza North; Pho Che is serving at 247 Main Street; and Picnic Sushi has opened at 239 Main Street, all 2026 arrivals on the borough's restaurant rows. Across the river, OddFellows Ice Cream has opened at 53 First Street in Hoboken, the creative-flavor shop now scooping on the waterfront. The October 15 refresh added a mid-October wave reaching across five towns: Çka Ka Qëllu, the Albanian-Kosovan kitchen at 322 Kinderkamack Road in Westwood, opened as the brand's first New Jersey location; Mon Petit Marché, a bakery-cafe and neighborhood market, opened at 200 Old River Road in Edgewater; and Millburn Deli, the Jersey institution known for sloppy joes, announced a second Bergen County location on Center Avenue in Westwood. They join TKO Tacos, open since September on West Englewood Avenue in Teaneck; Poppy, the dedicated gluten-free bakery at 26 Chestnut Street, and Grill & Greens, the halal bowls-and-salads spot at 36 Prospect Street, both open in Ridgewood; COV, the upscale coastal seafood restaurant at 115 River Road in Edgewater; and Middle Feast, the modern kosher Israeli kitchen on West Englewood Avenue in Teaneck, drawing lines since spring. The headline is in Closter, where Nikki Nikkei opened at 252 Schraalenburgh Road in the former The Hill space, a Japanese-Peruvian kitchen built around ceviches, tiraditos, crudos, and Nikkei grill dishes with a full cocktail bar, one of the more distinctive menus to land in the northern valley this year. In Ramsey, Knockout Bagels is now open at 475 North Franklin Turnpike, hand-rolling New York-style bagels for the morning crowd after its fall build-out. Across the river, Jersey City had a bakery-and-bar week: Sinta Bakery, the Filipino-inspired bakery and cafe from Baking Mama, opened at 240 Newark Street; Mallorca brought Mediterranean and American cooking to 395 Central Avenue in the Heights, in the former Los Amigos space; and House of Amrut added a whiskey tasting room built around an Amrut Indian single-malt collection. As of the first week of November 2026, the spotlight board adds seven dependable stops, all verified open now. In Fort Lee, Gyeonghoeru at 1355 16th Street serves Korean royal-cuisine classics in the high-rise district, a quieter counterpart to the bustle of Main Street. Ridgewood's downtown adds four tables worth knowing: Raymond's at 101 East Ridgewood Avenue, a steakhouse and raw bar on the village's east end, Turmeric Indian Bistro at 34 Franklin Avenue with a modern Indian menu, Pardis Persian Grill at 47 East Ridgewood Avenue for kebabs, rice, and stews, and Meltemi Greek Restaurant at 21 East Ridgewood Avenue for Aegean classics downtown. And Hackensack's Main Street adds Honey Brewed Cafe 2 at 294 Main Street and Coffee Break Hackensack at 71 Main Street, two more dependable morning stops in the county seat. As of the final week of October 2026, the opening pipeline is still moving into the last days of the month. In Allendale, Joe Thai Kitchen opened October 21-22 in the former Uno Mas space at 99 West Allendale Avenue, a Thai addition to the borough's small downtown. Shaky's Juice Bar & Cafe announced it is expanding to a Bergen County location, and Asian Bistro is coming soon to 177 Bridge Plaza in Fort Lee, joining a Bridge Plaza corridor that keeps adding names. In Hoboken, From Duo, the former Duo Donuts & Matcha, is soft-opening at 205 12th Street through the end of the month, while Dubu Hana, the Korean concept from the team behind Mökbar, remains on track for 8 Erie Street in Jersey City by late October or early November. As of the fourth week of October 2026, the opening wave is still moving at full speed on both sides of the river. In Fort Lee, Lefkes at The Modern, the acclaimed Greek kitchen returning to town, is now serving at 200 Park Avenue in the former Ventanas space, one of the fall's most anticipated waterfront debuts finally open. Lyndhurst gained Amici Caffè, an Italian cafe at 602 Ridge Road, and Paramus added Kabab Cafe, a Mediterranean restaurant and bakery at 501 Route 17 with a full barista coffee program. Hackensack welcomed The Spot, a breakfast-and-lunch spot at 118 First Street across from Hackensack High School, and Fort Lee opened its second Cafe et Lait coffee shop at 817 Abbott Boulevard in a renovated former bank branch. Across the river, Jersey City debuted the 85,000-square-foot ShopRite of Hudson Exchange Place at 99 Provost Street on October 14, replacing the Newport-area store, and Vicoletto Pizza & Cucina at 357 7th Street on October 11, while Hoboken gears up for From Duo, the former Duo Donuts & Matcha, soft-opening at 205 12th Street by the end of the month. As of the third week of October 2026, Fort Lee's Main Street keeps adding to one of the region's most active dining corridors. Sura On Main, a Korean royal-court cuisine restaurant, is on its way to 240 Main Street, while three names have just opened: Minia's at 1 Bridge Plaza North, Pho Che at 247 Main Street, and Picnic Sushi at 239 Main Street, all 2026 arrivals that deepen the borough's Korean and pan-Asian lineup. And in Hoboken, OddFellows Ice Cream has opened at 53 First Street, the creative-flavor ice cream shop finally scooping on the waterfront after a months-long coming-soon run.

As of the second week of October 2026, the opening wave keeps rolling across both counties. The Juice Pod opened its first Bergen County location with juices, smoothies, and health foods, Drip Lab Coffee Co. debuted as a specialty coffee shop and roaster, and Orbit Karaoke Lounge & Bar opened its doors on October 7 with private rooms and late-night cocktails. In Ridgefield, Novu Restaurant is replacing the longtime Gotham City Diner with an upscale concept, Cliffside Park is preparing Rojo Tequileria and Mexican Grill in the former Viva Margarita space, and Northvale gained Saigon Bistro at 269 Livingston Street. As of the second week of October 2026, the opening wave keeps rolling. In Westwood, Il Vero soft-opened at 170 Center Avenue in the former Prohibition space, an Italian-infused Mediterranean restaurant and bar that has been one of the fall's most anticipated Bergen County debuts. Maywood gained Platters Garden at 48 West Pleasant Avenue, a halal Mediterranean spot with customizable platters, wraps, and bowls, and East Rutherford welcomed Baires Cafe, an Argentinian bakery and coffee house on Paterson Avenue, its second Bergen County location. On the way: BOP Asian Eatery at 29 East Madison Avenue in Cresskill and Jersey Gyros expanding from its Lodi original to Ramsey. Across the river, Hoboken added Atomic Wings at 410 Washington Street, ĀTMĀ Yoga Collective at 500 Washington Street, Dan Bakery + Café, Sober Shot's second location at 1200 Washington Street, and creative studio Studio Story, with OddFellows Ice Cream at 53 First Street, Joe + The Juice, NAYA at 230 Washington Street, and Greens Goods + Grill at 603 Washington Street on the way this fall. Jersey City opened Four Winds, a trading-card and gaming store, and PETALED fitness at 6 Bleecker Street in the Heights, with ChaHalo tea shop at 358 Grove Street coming this fall. As of the first week of October 2026, the opening pipeline added two notable names. In Paramus, Blue Bottle Coffee opened at Westfield Garden State Plaza, the Oakland-based roaster's first Bergen County mall outpost, a strong sign of the plaza's continued refresh as the fall shopping season begins. And in Hackensack, Khyber Coffee & Tea House opened its second Bergen County location in early September, joining the downtown's growing cafe scene with its Afghan-style coffee, teas, and pastries. A second pair landed the same week: La Campessina Coffee Shop opened October 1 at 424 Broad Avenue in Ridgefield Park, a new coffee-and-brunch stop on the borough's main drag, and Kinzen Noodles & Rice Bowls was announced for 638 Westwood Avenue in River Vale, the former Sushi Kazuki space. All four are worth a stop if you are touring the county's retail and dining corridors this fall.

As of the start of October 2026, the fall opening pipeline has a strong new batch to report. In Fort Lee, Lefkes, the acclaimed Greek kitchen from neighboring Englewood Cliffs, is returning to town at The Modern in the former Ventanas space, one of the fall's most anticipated waterfront tables. Hackensack is adding three names at once: JINYA Ramen Bar at 390 Hackensack Avenue, Lettuce Inn, the Ramsey juice bar expanding downtown at 260A Main Street, and Ctrl Alt Refresh, a gaming cafe with Filipino and Chinese-inspired eats at 95 Anderson Street. Teaneck added TKO Tacos to its fast-growing casual lineup, Palisades Park gained Cafe Ssum + Karaoke on its restaurant-rich Broad Avenue corridor, and Paramus has Haven Fit Club, a fitness studio near the Garden State Plaza, on the way. Retail keeps moving too: Nordstrom Rack opens its 25,000-square-foot Ramsey location at the Interstate Shopping Center on Route 17 on October 8.

As of the final week of September 2026, Ridgewood is having one of the busiest opening stretches of its year. Grill & Greens, a halal spot serving bowls, salads, and grilled proteins, opened at 36 Prospect Street, and The Milkshake Factory arrived in the village the same week, joining Poppy, the dedicated gluten-free bakery at 26 Chestnut Street, which opened days earlier. Up in Westwood, Il Vero is among the fall's most anticipated Bergen County restaurant debuts. In Paramus, the Bergen Town Center is preparing Tatte Bakery & Cafe, Canton Rodeo (a Hong Kong-style BBQ concept), and Elev8tion Fitness for the coming months, joining Capon's Burgers, which opened at the center this month, while Westfield Garden State Plaza continues rolling out the new stores and restaurants it announced in June. Retail also keeps moving: Nordstrom Rack opens its 25,000-square-foot Ramsey location at the Interstate Shopping Center on Route 17 on October 8.

As of late September 2026, the fall opening pipeline delivered one of the busiest single months of the year in Bergen County restaurants. In Hackensack, Azul, a Mexican restaurant and agave bar from Chef Cristino "Tony" Campos, soft-opened at 120 River Street. Hasbrouck Heights gained Llama Sam, a modern Peruvian restaurant at 183 Boulevard (its second Bergen location, opened September 21). Paramus' Bergen Town Center welcomed Capon's Burgers, chef Josh Capon's first New Jersey outpost, and Englewood added Kebabé Mediterranean Cuisine at 548 Grand Avenue as its first Bergen County location. Closter gained 333 Wok Story, a Korean-Chinese kitchen serving noodles and dumplings at Closter Commons, Rutherford's The Filling Station (TFS Burger Works) opened at 329 Union Avenue on September 16, and Ridgewood gained Poppy, a dedicated gluten-free bakery at 26 Chestnut Street (opened September 24), alongside Monaco's Cafe, a European-inspired coffee and brunch spot that debuted in Mahwah. In retail, Nordstrom Rack opens its 25,000-square-foot Ramsey location at the Interstate Shopping Center on Route 17 on October 8. Across the river in Jersey City, Ani Ramen opened at Urby in the former Charley space, and two new food concepts, Bembe (casual steak and raw bar) and Steaks Shakes & Harmony, are coming to the former Better Days space at 143 Newark Avenue, while Trader Joe's was officially confirmed for 55 Hudson Street downtown with a 2027 opening expected. Hoboken has a new food hall in the works, and Mensho ramen is expected at 505 Summit Avenue in Jersey City's Journal Square.

Fresh on the calendar as of late September 2026: in Jersey City, Gemini (506 Jersey Avenue) grand-opened in early August as a neighborhood cafe and Dogdrop, the membership-based urban dog-care brand, opened its first New Jersey location in the city, while Fort Lee's Dipped 'n' Smashed, the Hoboken smash-burger and Nashville hot-chicken favorite, is bringing its second location to Hudson Lights at 187 Main Street, with Yo Dessert coming to 208 Main Street and Yui Izakaya still on track for 2060 Hudson Street. Ridgewood expects Robby's Pizza, a sourdough pizzeria from restaurateur Robby Corujo, plus Ani Ramen coming to the village; Hackensack's Route 17 corridor gains Ruka Japanese (413 Route 17, the former Bayside Boil space) and the 7th Street Burger Bergen County debut. And Hoboken keeps its pace with Color Me Mine at 318 Washington Street, SweatHouz at 1125 Maxwell Lane, and uptown City Fitness all opening this fall.

As of early September 2026, the Northern NJ dining and retail scene continues to evolve with exciting new openings. Recent additions worth noting: Auri — an all-day cafe and restaurant — opened at 2020 Central Road in Fort Lee in January, bringing artisanal coffee, house-made pastries, and seasonal lunch and dinner menus to a beautiful modern space. City Perch Kitchen + Bar opened at 2023 Hudson Street in Fort Lee, offering modern American dining with seasonal dishes and craft cocktails on the waterfront. Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls opened at 111 East Ridgewood Avenue in May. Morsetto Italian Kitchen — Southern Italian and Puglia-inspired cuisine — opened at 29 Chestnut Street in Ridgewood in late March, quickly becoming a downtown favorite. Millburn Deli — the beloved New Jersey sandwich chain founded in 1946 — opened its first-ever Bergen County location at 15 Oak Street in Ridgewood in mid-June, already drawing lines daily. In Fort Lee, Wonder (2036 Hudson St) opened as a delivery-first food hall featuring menus from top chefs like Bobby Flay and Jose Andres; BHC Chicken (Korean fried chicken), Hanwoori (Korean BBQ), Sikgam (new Korean restaurant), and Cap't Loui (Cajun seafood) all opened on Main Street in 2026; Seoul Cream (112 Linwood Ave) is a new Korean bakery and cafe. Orbit Karaoke — a karaoke and cocktail venue on Main Street — is coming soon. In Leonia, Snackstop opened at the corner of Broad Avenue and Fort Lee Road serving breakfast and sandwiches. In Teaneck, Middle Feast — a modern Kosher Israeli restaurant — opened on West Englewood Avenue in March, Power of Rice (Korean BBQ and bubble tea) opened on Cedar Lane in May, Pub 178 — an Irish pub and sports bar — opened in 2026, and Versalles Bakery & Restaurant — an artisan bakery with Colombian coffee and full-service dining — is coming to Teaneck Road. In Englewood, Proof & Prov brought Detroit-style pizza to Palisade Avenue, La Cuchara (authentic Spanish) opened on East Palisade Avenue in January, and Bear Donut opened at 55 N. Dean Street offering fresh doughnuts, coffee, and matcha tea. In Edgewater, Uncle Al's Sourdough Pizza opened at 19 Route 5 with artisanal sourdough pizza, COV By Blu opened its waterfront seafood and pasta spot at 115 River Road this summer, and the Caribbean-inspired K Midnight Kitchen is coming to Hilliard Avenue. In Bogota, Bean and Crumb Cafe opened with coffee, pastries, and specialty drinks. In Hoboken, Nana's Dumpling + Dim Sum (38 Jackson St) opened in the Southend Lofts — the first New Jersey location for the Colorado-based dumpling and dim sum shop; KiKi Lu Gelato opened this summer with authentic Italian-style gelato; Pura Vida — the Miami-based fast-casual chain — opened its first New Jersey location; and With Love, Valentina (small plates and wine bar) debuted at 700 1st Street. In Jersey City, Rosie's (246 Grove St) is a new diner concept from the team behind Cheech's expected to open soon, and Jane's Matcha debuted in Jersey City Heights with a tearoom featuring handmade ceramics and premium matcha. Faro Kitchen and LaNoma Italian Steakhouse continue to build followings in Fort Lee. Bandic Coffee in Englewood, Toastique in Ridgewood's Garber Square, COFFEECOL's roastery on West Palisade Avenue in Englewood, and Ridgewood's Lula at 28 Oak Street round out the latest coffee and dining finds. Ventanas Restaurant and Lounge at The Modern in Fort Lee, Patisserie Florentine in Englewood, and Jersey City's thriving brewery scene with Departed Soles, 902 Brewing Co., and Zeppelin Hall Beer Garden remain standouts. Looking ahead to the rest of fall, Jersey City is expecting Dubu Hana, a Korean concept from the team behind Mökbar under Food Network chef Esther Choi, at 8 Erie Street by late October or early November. Ridgewood has Gomen, a Japanese kitchen lab, and Hatch 44 Cafe flagged coming soon, while Hoboken has planned Oddfellows Ice Cream Co at 53 First Street, and Poke Pot has just opened at 303 First Street. Since my last update, a fresh batch of doors has opened across both counties: in Ridgewood, Gino's Deli is now serving the former Wilkes Deli space at 283 East Glen Avenue and Lil Honey Coffee Shop is pouring at 35 Godwin Avenue; in Hoboken, Pronto Pasta opened on Clinton Street and the cafe Saoco debuted on Jefferson Street; and in Jersey City, Alessio's Cafe landed on Newark Avenue in the former Roman Nose space, Dagda Irish Pub took over the old Cafe Coretto corner at 123 Newark Avenue, and Hybrid Coffee opened its third location in the Heights. And the fall pipeline keeps adding names: in Fort Lee, Yui Izakaya is coming to Hudson Lights at 2060 Hudson Street in the former Otter Fine Sushi space; Ridgewood welcomed Tabla, a new Indian restaurant at 16-18 Broad Street in the former Due space; Teaneck is expecting Rumba Cubana, the popular Cuban chain's second Bergen County location; and Jersey City added Shanway Chengdu Kitchen on Newark Avenue, Smash & Zingers on Central Avenue, and Dong Bei on Jersey Avenue to its 2026 lineup, with Caña Coffee + Bakery and Dumbo Market headed to Hoboken.
