Tenant Move-In Checklist
The three services every renter needs to arrange before move-in day: electric and gas, water, and garbage and recycling.
Moving into a new rental means putting a few service accounts in your name. This short checklist covers the utilities every tenant in Northern New Jersey needs: electric and gas through PSE&G, water through Veolia Water New Jersey, and garbage and recycling pickup through your town or building. Work through the three steps below and your new place will be ready before your first night.
Electric and Gas: PSE&G
PSE&G is the electric and gas provider for much of Northern New Jersey, and one account covers both electric and gas service. Set up your account at least a few days before your move-in date so your new place has power and heat when you arrive.
Water: Veolia Water New Jersey
Water service in Edgewater and much of northern Bergen County is provided by Veolia Water New Jersey (formerly United Water). You have two ways to arrange service for your move-in date:
- Call Veolia Water New Jersey at (800) 422-5987 to arrange service for your move-in date.
- Use the Veolia MyWater Customer Portal to create or activate a profile online, schedule the move-in, update billing, and set up automatic payments.
Garbage and Recycling
Garbage and recycling pickup is managed by your town or building, and collection days vary by street. In Edgewater, check the Edgewater garbage and recycling schedule for pickup days and any holiday changes. If your rental is in a multi-family building, confirm collection rules with your landlord or property manager.
